New Stream: Oneohtrix Point Never - The Fall Into Time
Sneaky snaking from our last post about the latest Ducktails release, we have a brand new stream from the equally prolific Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never who surprisingly contributed ‘synth’ to that very Ducktails record, who would’ve thought right? But when you consider the vast span of material Lopatin has released over recent years, he has time and time again proves his versatility and skill.
In 2011 we saw the release of Lopatin’s ‘Replica’, a minimal audio masterpiece that explored textures, drones, beats, samples, synths and vocals all simultaneously with a frightening sense of ease and calm. Last year came his gritty and psychedelic collaboration with Tim Hecker and now we are hearing unreleased material from his 2009 record ‘Rifts’. The compositional structures and pacing here contrast heavily with any of his recent work. The tracks are drawn out into effortless and free flowing sounds of a sheer tranquil nature with a huge emphasis on synth layering. It wouldn’t be too ridiculous to name drop Tangerine Dream here. ‘The Fall Into Time’ is a refreshing listen and almost like a calm ‘after’ the storm for Lopatin. What’s also great is that you can hook your ears around the entire thing for free via Wire magazine’s website.
